About Jenaer Bäder und Freizeit GmbH
We stand for relaxation and distraction from everyday life. With our spa, wellness and health offers, we are a popular point of contact for young and old in Jena and the region.
Company profile
Jenaer Bäder und Freizeit GmbH operates several pools in Jena, first and foremost the GalaxSea leisure pool. The modern sports and adventure pool with sauna area, wellness oasis and gastronomic offerings provides our guests with a variety of leisure activities. Numerous activities such as sports and swimming courses, sauna sessions and other festivities round off the offer.
During the summer months, our two outdoor pools in Jena are popular places to go: The Ostbad scores with its large swimming pool, the Südbad with its natural lake. Water sports enthusiasts will find attractive offers in both pools, while children have plenty of space to splash around. The extensive grounds with sunbathing lawns offer pure relaxation - including a nudist area in the Jenaer Südbad. The beach bar at Schleichersee also promises recreational fun with idyllic seating, beach volleyball and pedal boat hire.
We opened a new indoor sports pool in Lobeda-West in 2023. With eight 50-metre lanes suitable for competitions and a modern teaching pool, the "Schwimmparadies Jena" will significantly improve conditions for the city's water sports enthusiasts.
Jenaer Bäder und Freizeit GmbH has been in existence since January 1, 1998. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Stadtwerke Jena and thus a company of the Stadtwerke Jena Group.

Our contribution to the common good
The Jenaer Bäder und Freizeit GmbH as well as the THÜRINGENTHERME Mühlhausen, the Freibad am Schwanenteich and the Bäder in Erfurt, Gotha and Heilbad Heiligenstadt have successfully had their contribution to the common good certified.
In summer 2023, the Thuringian public baths launched a pilot project to evaluate and visualize their public welfare services. A comprehensive certification process was developed in collaboration with the German Bathing Society (DGfdB) and Forum Gemeinwohl Leipzig e.V. in order to further emphasize the social importance of the bathing establishments.
This has resulted in 8 public good activities:
- We create health-oriented offers in and around the water – for everyone. We strengthen the physical and mental health of our bathers and offer them well-being.
- We actively fulfill our educational mission. We train and develop swimming skills and make our contribution to the development of personal and social skills.
- We balance operating costs and socially acceptable prices. As an operator, we are an important part of public services and a location factor, but we still have to strike a balance between the common good and costs. We continue to develop the bathing culture in a future-oriented way. Modern sports and leisure pools have emerged from the 19th century bathing establishment and are constantly evolving. We act as a fair partner to society. We offer and expect mutual respect and effective equal treatment for all.We offer a variety of wellbeing experiences: For some, wellbeing is being able to swim or bathe, while others may need the thrill of competition. Still others enjoy the sauna and wellness facilities or seek out culinary and cultural delights. With the diversity of the Thuringian baths, there is something for all bathing guests.
- We consciously implement our environmental responsibility. We constantly keep an eye on optimizing our technical facilities and use resources consciously. We continuously design our Bäder as places of good encounters. The Bäder are meeting places for a wide variety of groups and offer a safe place to stay. Tolerance and community are practiced here.
