Work on the district heating network will begin by Stadtwerke Energie Jena-Pößneck on Monday, 25 March in Moritz-von-Rohr-Straße in Jena-Süd. The construction of a new district heating house connection for the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences is planned. The construction of 120 meters of hot water pipe is planned. The work should be completed by the end of June.

The majority of the work will be carried out on the grounds of the University of Applied Sciences away from the street. The construction site is then expected to move to Moritz-von-Rohr-Straße from mid-April. The road will then be fully closed in the area of the access road to the university parking lot and will be a dead end from both directions. During this time, the university parking lot will only be accessible via Lichtenhainer Straße.

Background: Stadtwerke Energie Jena-Pößneck is working on the modernization, densification and expansion of the existing district heating network. Around 34,000 of the 60,000 households in Jena are currently supplied with district heating from the municipal utility. They already benefit from a convenient and environmentally friendly heat supply. Stadtwerke is implementing various connection densification projects in the city center, the Westviertel and the Damenviertel, among others. At the same time, plans are underway to expand the district heating network. Stadtwerke also expects further impetus for this from the municipal heat planning currently being drawn up for the city of Jena. As part of its 2040 heat network strategy, the municipal utilities have also defined concrete steps for generating 98 percent of the district heating, which is still generated from fossil natural gas, in a climate-neutral way by 2040 at the latest.
