Tariff overview

A single journey ticket is valid for one journey directly to your destination. Changes and stops are possible during its validity, but round or return journeys are not allowed. For pupils up to 14 years, there is the single journey children available. Children younger than 8 yeas can travel for free if accompanied by an adult. 

You receive a 25 % discount with a BahnCard on single journeys and the single journey children if you corss at least two tariff zones in the joint transport area VMT. 

With the 4-journey ticket (standard or children) you can buy four journeys at the same time and save money compared to buying single journeys. You receive the 4-journey tickets (children) as two tickets with a space for voiding on both front and back side. 

The VMT-Hopper-Ticket is valid inside the tariff area in all city- and regional buses, trams and regional trains. It is available as single journey or round trip for routes between up to 7 tariff zones (price level 7). The validity of each journey is 240 minutes per day and person (in case of round trips, 240 minutes each journey), Monday til Friday from 9 a. m. and Saturday, Sunday and on holidays all-day until 3 a. m. of the following day. Parents or grandparents can take an unlimited number of (grand-)children up to and including 14 years with them for free.

For up to 5 persons travelling together or 2 adults with an unlimited number of own (grand-)children up to and including 14 years, for an unlimited number of journeys during one day. Alternatively valid for an adult with bicycle or dog. 

Valid for one person from the starting day until the same day the following week at 3 a. m. inside the chosen tariff zone. The weekly ticket can be transferred to another person. 

You can travel as pupil, student or apprentice as many times as you want during one week and inside the selected tariff zones. It is important to always carry a proof of authorisation with you, also in non-lecture periods or vacations.  (If the student-ID or proof of authorisation lacks a photograph, an additional official ID with photo identification is necessary)

It is necessary to buy a special ticket if you want to travel with a bike or a dog.  The tickets are valid during 360 minutes in the whole tariff area. In regional trains, you can take your bike with you for free. 

Be it a day trip, excursion or school trip - with this ticket, groups of minimum 16 children/students at general educational or professional schools can travel easily and economically with bus, train or tram to their destination and back. The outward and return journeys can be up to 7 days apart. Per five students, one supervisor can travel to a reduced price.  

It is only possible to order the ticket for large groups online. It is necessary to order with at least 14 days in advance. After assessing the capacities and receiving the approval by the transportation company, you can collect the group ticket at your chosen customer center upon payment. 

We accept the following tickets of Deutschen Bahn AG: 
check Thüringen-Ticket: valid for journeys of up to five persons in regionaltrains in Thuringia on any day. 
check City-Ticket: BahnCard-customers with a long-distance ticket of Deutsche Bahn are allowed to travel for free on both their day of arrival and departure to and from the train station inside the tariff-zone 30/Jena. The DB-ticket includes the note "Jena+City" below the destination. 
 

The Jena semesterticket is available for all students at Ernst-Abbe-Hochschule and Universität Jena. With the semester ticket, you can travel without limitation on all lines in the public transportation area Mittelthüringen (VMT). The student-ID (thoska) already includes the semester-ticket. If you want to travel with a bike or a dog, it is necessary to buy an extra ticket. Holders of a semester-ticket receive special conditions with the carsharing-service teilAuto.

Once a month, Jenabonus-holders can buy the following reduced tickets for public city transport in Jena at the Stadtwerke Jena customer center, showing their Jenabonus-card:  

 
New from September 2023:

Holders of the Deutschlandticket receive a discount of 15 euros on the subscription price. You can redeem the discount every month on presenting the Jenabonus-card at the Stadtwerke Jena customer centre. It will be credited at the next direct debit.

There is a monthly subsidy of 15.00 euros from the city of Jena for children and young people up to the age of 18 who are resident in Jena when purchasing the Deutschlandticket. This means that the ticket costs customers 34.00 euros per month.
