Anyone who loves to read needs a steady supply of new books. With today’s book prices, that’s quite a luxury. How wonderful, then, that we have our public bookcase, where anyone interested can help themselves to the books on offer—free of charge! We fund and manage this labor of love, with support from the Lobeda Neighborhood Library.

Reading is human history

For millennia, reading and writing have been the preferred means of passing on knowledge and information to others. Texts written hundreds of years ago in ancient Rome can be read today in Berlin. Reading has thus accompanied humanity for a very long time—and will likely continue to do so for a long time to come.

Reading educates and creates new worlds

Studies have shown that people who read a lot can express themselves more eloquently and have better spelling. Furthermore, reading broadens our horizons, allows us to see things from different perspectives, and immerses us in distant worlds. And: Reading is relaxing!

Our public bookshelf features novels, self-help books, coffee-table books, travel guides, cookbooks, and children’s books. There’s something for every taste, from crime thrillers to historical epics.

Take, read, pass on

The principle is simple: Anyone may take one or more books from the bookshelf. Once you’ve finished reading them, feel free to return the books or simply pass them on to someone else.
