Are you a tenant at Gotthard-Neumann-Straße 2, 4, 6, or 19, or at Salvador-Allende-Platz 9–23? Here you can find out more about the demand-based heating control system installed in these buildings: ImmoHeatIQ. This is an innovative pilot project implemented by jenawohnen in collaboration with the metering service provider Brunata-Metrona and the utility company Stadtwerke Energie Jena.
Below, we answer the most frequently asked questions about the pilot project and how to use the new heating system efficiently:
FAQ
If your question is not listed here, please contact your designated tenant support representative.
In a conventional heating system, a constant amount of heat is continuously fed into the system regardless of actual demand. A demand-based heating control system, however, responds flexibly: output is automatically adjusted according to how many apartments are currently requesting heat via their radiators. This ensures that the building's heating system always supplies exactly the amount of heat actually required by the apartments, avoiding any oversupply.
Our goal is to ensure that heating costs remain affordable for our tenants in the long term. Demand-based heating control aims to save energy, thereby reducing both heating and CO2 costs.
The new heating system ensures even and efficient heat distribution. It is no longer possible to rapidly boost the heat by turning the thermostat up high.
You will notice that the radiators do not get as hot as you may be used to. However, this does not mean the heating is less effective; the desired room temperature is reached automatically and reliably.
Please adjust your heating habits accordingly: set the desired temperature once and let the system regulate itself. Frequently turning the temperature up and down does not result in faster warming; instead, it can increase energy consumption and impair the indoor climate. Consistent heating ensures comfort, stable temperatures and a healthy indoor climate.
In general, the same guidelines for heating and ventilating apply as with a standard heating system. It is particularly important to keep your living areas consistently heated, including at night. The central heating temperature is automatically lowered by approximately 2°C at night (10:00 PM – 6:00 AM), so you do not need to adjust the radiators yourself.
Proper ventilation of your apartment is also important - specifically, airing out the rooms by opening the windows fully rather than leaving them tilted open.
We have summarized all the key information for you here:
The heating system can reach temperatures of up to 24°C, provided that heating and ventilation are managed correctly (using short, intensive ventilation rather than leaving windows tilted open continuously).
Do not turn the radiators off completely, in order to prevent the apartment from cooling down excessively. If you are away for several days, a temperature of approximately 16°C can be set as a guideline.
You can find instructions on how to operate the digital actuators in the operating manual:
By default, the digital actuator displays either the set target temperature or the frost protection symbol, along with the current status of the wireless connection. If a code consisting of a letter and a number appears on the display, please contact tenant services.
The thermostats are powered by AA batteries with a lifespan of approximately two years. When the battery power is depleted, the radiator valve shifts to a position that ensures a moderate level of heating until the batteries are replaced. Brunata-Metrona handles this process for you and notifies all tenants in the building of the scheduled appointment via a posted notice.
Please contact the tenant services representative responsible for your building. They will take note of your request and forward it to the appropriate department.
