Sustainability is buzzing – right in the heart of Lobeda
Since 2024, three bee colonies have called jenawohnen in Lobeda-West home. Around 120.000 bees are hard at work here every day, collecting nectar and making an important contribution to nature and the ecological balance in the residential area.
The result of their work is our own honey, “Lobedaer Gold”—a natural, unadulterated honey made from chestnut and linden blossoms. As early as the first year, around 45 kilograms were harvested.

Good for the neighborhood
Our bees help pollinate numerous plants, thereby contributing to biodiversity in the area. This benefits both nature and our tenants: whether it’s cherry tomatoes on the balcony, herbs on the windowsill, or flowers in the courtyard—the bees ensure more abundant blooms and better yields.
Our beehives are located on the grounds on Fregestraße—where the dovecote is also situated. The hardworking honeybees collect nectar from the surrounding insect meadows, actively contributing to the ecological balance in the neighborhood.
A passion for the buzz
One of our jenawohnen caretakers tends to the bee colonies with a high level of expertise and great dedication. Thanks to his training as a beekeeper and years of experience, he ensures that the bee colonies thrive and enjoy optimal living conditions.
Sustainable and local
The bee project demonstrates that sustainability can begin right on our doorstep. With dedication and a sense of responsibility, we create habitats for insects, promote environmental awareness, and bring nature to life in urban spaces.
In addition to the bee colonies, jenawohnen is involved in other nature conservation projects: We are converting areas into insect pastures and setting up insect hotels to create even more habitats for beneficial insects.
Step by step, this creates a natural and livable residential environment—for our tenants and for all the creatures that buzz and fly in Lobeda.
